marketing and promoting an event for businessWhether you work as an in-house marketer, small business owner or agency, we all know our marketing capabilities. As we grow older (some say wiser), we come up with good ideas, many of which never get delivered as it’s often felt it’s too much of a risk, or it’s out of our comfort zone.

Events and seminars are a big risk and viewed as a necessary evil by all sorts of North East businesses to build their brand and increase business. The hardest part, all will tell you, is getting the right bums on seats, and how can you be sure they’ll turn up?

So, you can imagine how surprised we were, when in one of our monthly catch-up meetings, our accountancy client Nickalls announced that they’d booked former Olympic athlete, and relay World Champion, Kriss Akabusi, and another chap who we’d not heard of until then called Steve Pipe, to deliver a seminar with them.

They’d booked the prestigious venue of Gosforth Park Marriott hotel, and their brief to us was to promote and fill the event with growing SMEs from all sectors (excluding other accountants though, for obvious reasons).

Most people know that event management isn’t normally our specialism, but we are good at marketing, promotion and PR, so, a bit like Nickalls, we decided to step outside of our comfort zone and give it a go.

And I’m so pleased we did.

How to promote B2B events

The event, which was created with the aim of getting attendees motivated and persuading them to step outside their comfort zone, was a massive success with a full room of attendees.

Attendees were captivated by the speakers, and it has really helped raise the Nickalls profile with businesses across the North East.
